The Archer Mathieson Ladies are taking part in the Windsor Race for Life on 11/07/2010 to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and would really welcome your support.
Race for Life has been bringing women together for 16 years, and has raised more than £327 million in total for Cancer Research UK. Over this time, we’ve seen real improvements in the outlook for cancer patients in the UK.
Here’s how the picture has changed:
- Almost two thirds of women diagnosed with breast cancer now are expected to survive their disease for at least 20 years. When Race for Life first started, fewer than half could expect to survive this long.
- Over the last decade, we’ve also seen the death rate from bowel cancer drop by around 16 per cent. That’s thanks to greater awareness, earlier detection and better treatments.
- The incidence rate for cervical cancer has dropped by almost a quarter since Race for Life began, largely due to screening. Cancer Research UK contributed to the development and improvement of cervical screening.
It's developments like these that have led to an overall drop of around 15 per cent in the death rate from all cancers since Race for Life began.
If you would like to help spur us on with a donation we would all be very appreciative:
